| Backyards reenacts recent media images of ordinary Iraqi citizens caught in moments of reflection and prayer. Removed from their wartime context and inserted into all American landscapes untouched by war, the gestures become uncanny as the audience constructs new narratives to replace those that have been repressed. Reenacted photographs are presented with their source images inviting viewers to consider the relation between war, religion and geography.
